Introducing the newest addition to our electric fleet — our new 2021 VW ID.4 First Edition. A few months back, we got an in-depth sneak peek during Hein Schafer’s walk-around at the Motor Press Guild’s Virtual Media Day. We got to see some of the compact crossover’s most fun features (mood lighting, anyone?), but whether you’re into the “cute” features and no-fuss interior, or not, there’s no denying the ID.4 is an industry gamechanger as the introduction to a practical and affordable EV crossover. The VW ID.4 is the first of several ID generations which will launch in the US. All are built on the same MEB modular EV platform, including the upcoming coupe-like ID.5 crossover. We enjoyed the vehicle’s ignition-style gear select, and have been impressed by the battery’s driving range. According to Edmunds’ real-life test, it beat the EPA-estimated range of 250 miles by 15 percent. Also, it recently won World Car of the Year edging out the Toyota Yaris and Honda E. Bravo, Volkswagen.
